STORAGE Basics:-

ex- extended file system
- ext3- ext2+journal form- developed from  version 3.0
ext3 is essential file system,easily migrate from ext2 to ext3
- ext4- ext3+journal form- developed from  version 6.0
ESX/ESXi-
VMFS- vmware file system

VMFS 3/VMFS5/6

Featurs-
we can share the hard disk
Sharing is very freely work.
DATASTORE- 
A LUN formated with VM's
LUN- Logical Unit Number

Types of Storages
1.FC - Fiber Channel
2.ISCSI- Internet Small Computer Syatem Interface.
3.NAS- NETWORk Attached Storage.

FC- Datawill pass light signel format

ISCSI- Cables(electronic cable like) performance bit slow than FCcost is low.

NAS-  Less cost .

HBA- host Bus Adapter
WWN- World Wide number or Name
ADD FC to Host-

1.VMWare WWn info
2.SAN-map LUN with specific host
3.VM- create datastore.

Locate WWN info:-
ESXi- Configration-> storage Aapter-> copy 
Creaye Datastore-
ESXi-configration->

VMware Tools,Status ,Installation,UPGRADE

VMware Tools-
1.video(Video related)
2.SCSI(Small Computer System Interface,main use scaner,printer disk)
3.Baloon(memory management)
4.Time Syncronization(server time)
5.NIC(Network related)

VMware tools is nothing but Set of drivers from VM.

Main purpose of VMware tools usage is it's increase the system  performance and Audio and video.
STATUS-
1.Not installed
2.Out dated
3.Current
VM -> summary->VMWare Tools

Note-   Not installed and Outdated both same Process we can install Vmware Tools.other wise we can get OS ans system other updates.

Install:-
VM-> right click-> Guest-> install/upgrade tools-> ok
NEXT
Go to My compute-> double click on cd/dvd-> next-> next-> finish.

NOte:-
If VM is on ESXi 5.0 or lesser than that version VM should reboot and apply drivers.

If VM is on ESXi 5.1 or lter version then no reboot needed.

VMcreation,cloning,cloning types,Template

VM creation-
To create VM in 5 ways -

1.create VM directly on ESX/ESXi
2.clone
3.Template
4.P2V/V2V
5..OVA/OVF
1. Create VM directly on ESX/ESXi
Connect to ESXi using vsphere client

Right click-> New VM ->Name- RAM/CPU/Hard disk->next->finish.

2.Cloning-
Duplicate an existing VM.
Normal we build a VM  it's take time  .so we can   minimize the time

clone-  VM -> Right click->enter the vm name ->select the destination(Host/Storage)->next->finish
SID- Security Identifier.

Clone types-
Hot Clone
Cold Clone
Hot Clone- Cloning a power on VM(online)

Cold Clone- Cloning the power off VM(offline)

Note:-
OS never change the cloning.
Cloning never copy the ESXi host

Template-
Duplicating an existing VM  or Master copy of VM.(Deploy the Template)
-we an multiple deploy(Multiple  VM)
Create Template-
Power off VM->Right click->Template->convert to Template

Deplot VM from Template-
Template-> Right click->deploy vm from template->enter vmname ->select destination(host/storage)->finish.
Template like a book symbol
Note-
-OS change the template but we can change template as VM (convet as VM)  then do as some changes then convert template.

.OVA/OVF-
OVA- Open virtual appliance(.ova)

OVF- Open Virtual File(Configration,Hard disk)

Export to OVA-
power off VM-> file->export->export as ova-> select destination(host/storage_-> ok

SAME LIKE OVF.

Deploy from .OVA-
Vcenter-> file-> deploy from OVA->select source file ->enter vm name ->  select destination(host/storage)-> next-> finish.

-vmware.vmx- vm configuration file(power off ,power on)
- .vmdk - vm hard disk file(index file)
-flat.vmdk -vm hard disk file (actual data)
.nvrm - BIOS file
vmware.log-log files (power on to power off=1 log file)
vmware.log n(number)
ex- vmware.log2,vmware.log3 etc...
- .vswap -swap file(created when power on, deleted when power off)
-.vmsn - snap shot files
-.vmsd- snap shot fils.

Why we need VMware(virtualization)
virtualization- Transforming the hardware into software.
